7 Things You Need to Know About ...
Web Site Development
This begins the section titled "7 Things You Need to Know
About..." OK, so - let's all agree...perhaps there are literally 1,000 things we could put under each category...but we ask you...would you read them...or would your brain go into FULL tilt at the mere thought of a list of 1,000 items! RIGHT! So, to make life shorter and (perhaps) sweeter...we have limited the topic to 7 items. 'Course, NONE of us at Wheat are known for our shortness of speach, so we will probably add in more and more topics. But, at least the topic list will clue
you in to which page you want to read...
Don't see a topic? Email us at webinfo@wheatcom.com...we will add topics in.
What is a Web Site? It is a reflection on the Internet of
YOUR business Make sure it makes you look and sound like a million dollars!
Beware of these possible pitfalls –
1. Beware the price extremes
– a web site company is a business. If it doesn't really seem to charge for its services, it wont be there later on if you need them. So, beware the FREE of LOW MONTHLY FEE web site – watch for hidden costs, long term contracts, and "DISAPPEARING" web site developers. Make sure you will get great service, good design and someone who will listen to your business needs.
2. Beware the HIGH END web site company
– this usually means they start their prices at thousands of dollars. Usually, You CAN find a good developer for less than that.
3. Beware these phrases: "I am just doing this on the
SIDE" or "I want to try your company out so I will do it CHEAP or FREE"
–they need to be around later in order to help you with important changes..and make sure they KNOW how to develop a BUSINESS SITE – business sites are different than other types of sites.
4
. Beware the TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE web deal – it usually is! Again, watch for hidden costs, long term contract, and disappearing web developers.
5. Beware the lack of any written agreement…run from "We
TRUST you – we don't need to get it in writing – GET it ALL in writing! SIGNED!
6. Beware the HUGE graphics site
– many will not be able to download the pictures – you just don't want to be the web site that freezes up their computer!
7. Beware the HUGE TECHIE site
– with lots of moving things and special effects – many won't be able to open them up or download them, and they could get those annoying empty boxes at your site – or worse – their computer could freeze up!
In summary: use standard, good business practices
in picking a web site developer – and make sure they use good business practices. Get a few quotes: go with one in the middle. Remember, your web site may be the very first impression someone
has of you and your company – make sure it's a good one!
